2020 Herd Relays Format:

  • You can choose to have teams of 3 or 6 people.
  • There will be four categories of teams | Male, Female, Coed & High School (Learn more about these categories on the Registration Page).
  • The Herd Relays consist of 3 trail loops which all begin and end in the Big Sky Resort Base Area.
  •  Loops must be completed 4 times each for a total of 12 legs.
  • All teams must run the loops in the same order.  Loop #1, Loop #2, and Loop #3, then repeat 3 more times.
  •  All team members for 3 and 6 person teams must run at least 1 leg. However, runners do not need to run more than 1 leg, so other members can run more if they wish.
  • The overall distance will be approx. 50 Miles and 15,000 of elevation gain.
  • There will be three wave starts.  1st Wave at 6:30 AM | 2nd Wave at 8:30 AM | 3rd Wave at 10:30 AM
  • Wave starts are designed so that teams who think they will take less time to complete the course start later in the day, while teams that think they will take more time to complete the course start earlier.  This creates a very fun and festive finsih area / transition zone in the Herd base area while many fot he teams will be fiunishing within a short period of time. Learn More about how to choose your wave HERE.
  • Course closes at 9:30 PM.  This is a 15 hour cut off for folks in the first wave, 13 hours for the 2nd wave, and 11 hours for the third.
  • There are no aid stations on course, but we will have a well stocked base area for runners all day long int eh start /finish/transition zone in the Big Sky Resort Base Area.
